In the wake of the flames of the streets of Baltimore, Christians of all stripes have incessantly talked about the need for liberation. It often goes something like this, “Let’s seek God for liberation in our time….” While these words are wonderful on their face, they don’t speak to the depth of the crisis that our nation faces. Liberation is impossible in this nation without revolution. There has to be a total transformation of the way that we think and engage with each other. White churches can’t keep all of their wealth and expect real liberation for persons of color. There has to be real sacrifice and change. Words alone simply will not cut it. We must work to revolutionize the hearts and minds of our neighbors. While change is possible, it simply will not happen until people come out of their prayer closets and get into the world. We can dismantle racist institutions and systems…but we are going to have to pray with our feet.
